Tobermory is located at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula National Park. Known for it’s crystal-clear waters, rugged cliffs and jagged shoreline, Tobermory is an excellent location for inspirational photography.
This workshop is for photographers of all skill level. Located at the northern tip of Bruce Peninsula National Park, Tobermory really is a hidden gem and provides endless opportunities for photographers.
We keep our workshop groups small, so what you’ll receive is hands-on, one-on-one photography instruction.
If you’re just a beginner, don’t worry, we’ll cover the basics of camera control such as f-stops, shutter speed and ISO – and how different combinations of these create different results. Over the course of the weekend we’ll discuss composition, the rules to know, and the rules to break for creating engaging and powerful images. You’ll experience first-hand the creative process of a professional photographer, from image conception to the final digital result.
Photo critique is a big part of the process. We’ll have an ipad on hand to review and critique your images. This gives you an opportunity for immediate feedback which is critical in the learning process. We’ll also show you how to post processing your images. In digital photography the image capture is just the beginning, the real fun is creating your images in post production.
By the end of the workshop you’ll have a solid foundation of photography and an understanding of what all those little knobs and dials do on your camera. You’ll know how to scout a location, pick the best spot, compose your photo, and get that amazing result. You’ll be a superstar at post-processing your images and impress your friends with your photos.
Directions and a detailed list of equipment (photography and personal camping gear) will be sent to all workshop participants.
Shooting location during this workshop: The Grotto, Singing Sands Beach, Halfway Rock Point, Boulder Beach, Halfway Log Dump, Little Cove, Cyprus Lake, Dorcas Bay, and a few other secret spots.
Each day will follow a similar itinerary: Sunrise shoot, breakfast, down time (rest)/lunch, post processing instruction, dinner, scout and sunset shoot. If the weather co-operates after the sun sets, we’ll have an opportunity to photograph the stars as well.
While we have a detailed location list, all will be dependent on conditions and weather. We’ll keep the itinerary flexible to accommodate this. But fear not, we will be shooting rain or shine!
We meet at 3pm in Tobermory. Location details will be provided to participants. We’ll settle in and go out to photograph the evening light and the sunset. Tobermory is one of the darkest spots for night photography in Ontario. And for the next few nights, if the sky is clear, well have an excellent opportunity to photograph the stars.
Up bright and early for a sunrise shoot followed by breakfast. We start today’s photo session with a location shoot. We’ll break for lunch and then head back to photography. In the evening we gather for dinner and then again venture out for a sunset shoot. We’ll take time today to go over the post production process and review participants images.
A similar schedule to yesterday. Up bright and early for a sunrise shoot followed by breakfast. After breakfast we head out for a location shoot. Break for lunch and then head back for more photography. In the evening we gather for dinner and then more photography. We’ll take time today to go over the post production process and review participants images.
An early morning start again to capture the sunrise. Breakfast, then spend the rest of the morning and early afternoon shooting the shoreline and breaking waves of Georgian Bay. We finish the workshop around 3pm just after lunch.
All meals (except dinners) are included in the cost of the workshop. Everything is prepared on-site and guaranteed to be delicious! We will accommodate those with special dietary restrictions (eg. vegetarian). Meals include:
